Some say time heals. I agree … until a child tries to make sense of it.
The neighbor innocently asked Ian if he was still taking naps. He goes on to enthusiastically tell Ian that naps are good and they help him GROW. A few days pass until Ian tells me he doesn’t want to take naps anymore. When inquiring why, he tells me because he doesn’t want to grow. Really? I thought all kids wanted to grow up. Ian goes on to tell me that he doesn’t want to grow up because if he does, then I will get older and will die someday like Oma did. With a lump in my throat, I couldn’t think of a quick response. Since that day, Ian has asked me to stay near him as he falls asleep.
It has been 1 1/2 years since my Mum’s soul has left this earth. Although I still think of her everyday, time was healing – until this last incident. A mother’s love cannot be replaced.
